Cameron, William Bleasdell: 1862-1951. Arrived in West, 1881; survivor of the Frog Lake massacre, 1885; in service of the HBC and of the Dominion government; for a time lived in USA where he edited Forest and Stream; "discovered" Charles M. Russell, the cowboy artist, when he purchased 12 paintings as covers for the magazine; founded The signal of Vermilion, Alberta; contributed stories to many magazines based on Native life and fur-trade experiences (Saskatoon Star-Phoenix, March 5, 1951; Morgan, Canadian men and women of the time, 1912; Who's who in Western Canada). // Also published, London: Duckworth, 1926 (256p.); 2nd edition, revised, London: Duckworth, 1927 (256p.); Boston, Mass.: Small Maynard & Co., 1927 (256p.). For later editions see Peel 1359. The Boston edition is considered to be the 3rd edition. Cameron sold serial rights to The Grain Growers' Guide , where it appeared twice-monthly from December 1, 1927 to March 1, 1928.
